Join us for a seed swap at the Hiawatha Public Library. Do you have plants to share? Bring those too and we will have a plant exchange.

This highly anticipated, multi-location gardening event is FREE, and open to the public from 10:00am-12:00pm. An awesome collection of seed varieties - vegetables and herbs, flowers, and native prairie species. Small space selections. Easy-to-grow varieties. Perennial and pollinator-friendly selections. Nine Square Feet is providing each swap location with a great selection of seed, and they've recruited some knowledgeable local folks to help you find just the right varieties for your garden.
Each adult attendee can choose up to 5 free packets of seed and children (12 and under) can pick 2 free packets of their very own. Bring a gardening buddy or the whole family.

Do you have seed to swap? Swap up to 10 packets of your saved seed 1-for-1.

Here are the guidelines for seed swappers:

Swap a maximum of 10 seed packets 1-for-1.
Seeds must be collected or dated 2019 or later.
Saved seed should have a germination rate of at least 60%. Here’s an easy tutorial of a germination test https://www.southernexposure.com/how-to-test-germination/
Packaged in paper envelopes or plastic baggie, individually labeled.
Suggested quantity is 10-20 larger seeds or ¼-½ teaspoon small seeds.
Labeled with seed type AND variety name. Optional: color, height, growth habits.
Labeled with year collected.
Labeled with the swapper’s first name.
You may also swap opened commercial seed packets dated 2019-2023 with at least half original contents and taped closed.

We love SEEDS!  Thanks for participating in the biggest statewide seed swap in Iowa’s history.

If you have plants that you would like to share, bring those too and we will have a plant exchange.
