Introduction to Papermaking for Teens
Friday, July 17
2:00pm - 5:00pm
Hiawatha Public Library
Forrest Kramer Room 103.1With Iowa paper-based artist, printmaker, muralist: Harper Folsom
In this papermaking class, participants will learn how paper is made and what tools and materials are involved in the process. Everyone will get to make pulp in a blender, form sheets of paper in molds & deckles, and take home their own personalized paper! Materials will be provided by the instructor. Additionally, participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring their own scraps of old paper to recycle into new paper. Flat items like flower petals and pieces of fabric are also welcome to experiment with! Everyone will get their hands wet, learn something new, and leave with a stack of one-of-a-kind papers.
Harper (she/her) is an interdisciplinary, paper-based artist living and working in Iowa City. She is a recent MFA graduate from the University of Iowa Center for the Book. She primarily works with handmade paper, printmaking techniques, book forms, and collage. Her current body of work reflects on childhood, and the way her own memories morph into family history.
