Hiawatha Public Library — Youth Advisory Board

The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a team of teens who help plan programs, give feedback, and make the library an awesome place for everyone. If you like sharing ideas, helping your community, or just want something meaningful (and fun!) to be part of… this is for you.

Oh — and did we mention there’s FREE PIZZA at meetings? 🍕😎

Your Role
Title: Youth Advisory Board Member
Who Can Join: Teens in grades 6-12
Meetings: every other month for an hour — with free pizza!

Extra volunteer opportunities are available but optional.

What You’ll Do
As a YAB member, you will:

Help plan teen events & activities
Share ideas about what the library should offer teens
Give feedback on programs, spaces, and collections
Promote library events to friends & classmates
Work with other teens & library staff
Make real decisions that shape the library
No resume needed. No experience needed.
Just bring your voice, your creativity, and your vibe 🎤✨

What You’ll Get:
Volunteer/service hours
Leadership & teamwork experience
A real say in library decisions
New friends & a welcoming community
Great experience for college & job apps
Confidence & communication skills
FREE PIZZA at meetings (yes, we’re serious)

Who We’re Looking For
You might be a great fit if you:

Care about your community
Are kind, respectful, and open-minded
Want to make the library better for teens
Can attend meetings regularly

Expectations:
Be welcoming & inclusive
Participate during meetings
Let us know if you can’t attend
Help make the library a safe and positive space for all teens
You’ll be supported by the Hiawatha Public Library Teen Services Staff the whole way.

How to Join: register on this event or on Signup Genius if you're already a volunteer with HPL.

We’d love to have you on the Youth Advisory Board.
